Out of 4500 applicants, Armando Minjarez & Horizontes became one of the winning 33 Knight Cities Challenge Winners in 2017.
Armando Minjarez, in conjunction with the ICT Army of Artists, is working to break down the metaphorical and physical barriers which separate our neighborhoods through straetgic placement of murals. The vibrancy in Wichita is present. The creativity is bubbling. The conversation has started and the players are at the ” table. What is needed now are financial resources to bring this project to reality.
This project would be quite the sight to see — not only by neighborhood residents
on a daily basis, but by thousands who travel along I-135, a major highway that cuts right through the two neighborhoods described within the project.
Armando has been a catalyst in bringing together different economic classes, cultures, and ethnicities in the Wichita community to create public works of art that have promoted community unity and pride.
Horizontes has the potential to bring national and international media attention to Wichita by offering a positive and hopeful message that highlights the power of the arts to bring communities together.
Horizontes will offer a point of civic pride to our local creative community motivating them to continue working to make Wichita a better place to live.
One of the best ways for a city to show their communities that they care is to invest in their growth which is one of the reasons why the Dunbar Theater is pleased to be in collaboration with Horizontes.
